Are you finding the best city to live in India? The Ease of Living Index released by the Ministry Of Housing and Urban Affairs will give you detailed info about the best cities across the country. This year’s Index was released today in which 111 cities were assessed. Bengaluru tops the Ease of Living Index 2020 in the category of the cities with more than 10 lakhs people.

About The Ease of Living Index
The cities were categorized into two parts- one with more than 10 lakhs population and the second with a population less than 10 lakh. Approx 111 cities were assessed on different criteria such as health and safety, education, affordable housing, transportation, water and power supply, and more.
There are 15 such criteria’ to evaluate a city’s performance and livability. This index has been launched since 2018 and aims to improve the living condition in the country that will prove beneficial for investors as well as city with poor score needs more improvement that will attract investors, builders, and other businessmen.
Best Cities In The First Category
According to the recent index reports, Bengaluru tops the list with the highest score 66.70 and is the largest city of Karnataka where more than 8 million people lives.

Pune which was the best city on the index in 2018 gets the second position with 66.27and Ahmadabad is the third with 64.87 scores. Rests are mentioned below with their respective scores:
- Chennai- 62.61
- Surat-61.73
- Navi Mumbai- 61.60
- Coimbatore-59.72
- Vadodara-59.24
- Indore-58.58
- Greater Mumbai-58.23
Best Cities In The Second Category
Punjab’s Kapurthala is the least populated city of India according to census 2011 but it is not even on the list of Ease of Living Index 2020.

Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla tops the second category with a 60.90 scores whereas Bhubaneshwar in Orissa and Silvassa in Dadar and Nagar Haveli are in the second and third positions respectively.
Tamil Nadu’s Tiruchirapalli which is considered the safest city for women holds the 10th position and scores 55.24. The remaining cities in the list are Kakinada, Salem, Vellore, Gandhinagar, Gurugram, and Davangere.
This report is based on the survey taken from 19 January to March 2020. More than 32 lakhs of people participate in the Citizen Perception Survey and gave their feedbacks via both offline and online mediums.
Delhi On Ease of Living Index 2020

The metro city Delhi with more than 3 crore population didn’t even manage to get in the top 10. The city gets 13th rank in the index.
Municipal Performance Index 2020
Apart from EoL, Municipal Performance Index was also released by the government in which Indore tops in the first category whereas NDMC tops the second category. Surat and Bhopal were the other two in the million-plus category of MPI.
Tirupati and Gandhinagar municipalities are at second and third position respectively in less than a million categories of MPI that assess under 5 criteria- technology, policy, services, governance, and finance.
