Donald Trump Bold Leadership: Tariffs, Global Tensions, and Major Announcements as 47th US President

Donald Trump

Donald Trump took charge of America. Donald Trump took oath as the 47th President. Donald Trump’s action has started as soon as he took the chair of the President. He has shown the whole world a glimpse of what the future holds for America. What will be America’s attitude towards whom. He announced tariffs on Canada and Mexico. Trump said that from February 1, America will impose a 25 percent tariff on Canada and Mexico. Going a step further, he has now said something that has created panic in 11 countries. This includes India and China as well.

Donald Trump had also claimed during the election campaign that he will stop the Gaza-Israel war within 24 hours of taking office. Before his swearing-in, a ceasefire has been signed between Hamas and Israel, but no one has a guarantee as to how long it will last. When Trump was questioned about whether this ceasefire will last or not, he gave such an answer that everyone was surprised.

Donald Trump replied, “I don’t trust it! This is not our war; this is their war. I don’t believe it, but they are very weak on the other side.” 60 percent of US voters believe that Trump has brokered the deal between Hamas and Israel, and nobody is able to digest Trump’s statement on the deal’s success.

Donald Trump openly threatened the BRICS countries

As soon as he took oath on Monday, US President Donald Trump said that 100% tariff can be imposed on BRICS countries including Spain. BRICS includes ten countries – Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran and United Arab Emirates. And Spain is not a part of BRICS. But despite this, it is also on Trump’s radar. However, in December itself, Donald Trump had indicated that he would impose 100% tariff on BRICS countries. However, he had put a condition for this.

Donald Trump’s condition – ‘If BRICS countries create BRICS currency or support another currency against the dollar, then they will have to pay 100 percent tariff and say goodbye to selling their goods in America. There is no chance that BRICS will replace the US dollar in the international market.’ This threat by Donald Trump means that India will also be caught in this. India is an important member of BRICS.

Trump’s statement is also important because some time ago it was reported that BRICS countries are considering their new currency. However, there is no official statement on it yet. If Trump’s threat proves to be true, then it will be a big problem for BRICS countries. In such a situation, it will become very difficult for India to import and export from America.

Canada’s reaction

Canada’s Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc and Foreign Minister Melonie Jolie have expressed concern over Trump’s statement. Melonie Jolie said that Canada will continue to work to stop the tariff and is ready to respond to it if it is implemented. Finance Minister LeBlanc said that Canada is fully prepared for Trump’s unexpected actions.

US and Canada trade relations

A quarter of America’s oil consumption comes from Canada. Alberta exports 4.3 million barrels of oil to the US every day. Apart from this, Canada provides goods and services worth about 3.6 billion Canadian dollars every day to 36 US states. Despite these trade relations, Trump’s statement that the US does not need oil or anything else from Canada can further strain the relations between the two countries.

US and Canada trade relations

Trade between India and the US is very high. If the data is to be believed, the highest trade is currently taking place between India and the US. In other words, the US is India’s largest trading partner. Bilateral trade between India and the US stood at $118.3 billion in 2023-24. At the same time, the US was India’s top trading partner during the years 2021-22 and 2022-23. But in the financial year 2023-24, India’s biggest trading partner changed. China replaced America. China has emerged as India’s largest trading partner with bilateral trade of $118.4 billion. However, America is still India’s biggest trading partner after China.

Trump’s false claim on Panama

Trump also promised to take back the Panama Canal, saying that 38,000 Americans died during the construction of this canal and China is operating the canal. The truth is that 5,600 people died in the American construction and these were workers from the Caribbean. The administrator of the Panama Canal has denied Trump’s claim that China is operating the canal. He has said that the Chinese companies working at these ports were part of a Hong Kong consortium that won the bidding process in 1997. American and Taiwanese companies are also operating other ports along the canal.

A strong message to Pakistan too

The US has given Pakistan the status of a non-NATO ally for years, in return for which Pakistan has been receiving billions of dollars in economic aid every year. It is clear from Trump’s statement that he is considering ending this special status. Earlier, an aide of the Donald Trump administration had also hinted in this direction.

What does this message mean for Pakistan? If the US ends Pakistan’s status as a non-NATO ally, then billions of dollars of US aid to Pakistan may stop. This can have a profound impact on Pakistan’s economy, which is already facing financial challenges. Trump’s statement has increased concern in Pakistan, as it has been largely dependent on US aid.

Big decision taken regarding TikTok

US President Donald Trump on Monday signed an executive order to extend the operation of video sharing platform TikTok by 75 days. TikTok has 17 crore users in America.

The executive order signed by Donald Trump said, “I am directing the Attorney General not to take any steps to implement the ban on TikTok for a period of 75 days from today so that my administration gets an opportunity to prepare appropriate proposals that will protect national security and prevent the sudden closure of the operation of a platform that is used by millions of Americans.” The app was shut down on Saturday a few hours before the federal law banning TikTok in the US came into effect.
