Warning!! Do Not Fill Your Fuel Tank Completely

Warning

A new circular released by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution has suggested that vehicle owners not fill the fuel tank completely.

If we go through the circular issued by the Ministry, the Legal Metrology Division got demonstrations from Petroleum Dealer Associations related to the wrong tank capacity listed in service manuals of two-wheelers and four-wheelers.

It is purported that the fuel tank capacity listed in the booklets is normally 15-20% lesser than the actual capacity.

The reason behind the extra free volume is associated with some security measures such as:

  1. To avoid Volatile Organic matter from being leaked in the matter of volume extension, underground tanks at fuel pumps have low temperatures if we compare it to the atmosphere.
  2. Gasoline requires space for vapor making, and if it is not given, then the engine operation will be hindered. At the same time, unburnt fuel will ultimately evolve into uncontrolled hydrocarbon pollution.
  3. If the fuel tank is filled completely without leaving some space, and the vehicle is parked in an inclining or declining position, it may lead to leakage, which may be dangerous as fuel is a very much inflammable substance.

The Ministry has also requested automobile manufacturers to suggest motor vehicle users to not fill their fuel tanks completely. Rather than this, they can fill it within the noted quantity.

Before this, a lot of incidents have been listed of car owners being indulged in an argument with fuel pump attendants after having a fuel tank capacity highlighted by the OEM.

So far, the United Kingdom has set up over 17,000 electric vehicle charge stations over the country. The figure is increasing day by day having new charge points being added up to the network on the daily basis.

At the same time, electric vehicles are a big step towards green energy, but there is still a number of controversies revolving around how they are charged and where the electricity is drawn from.
