COVID-19 vaccine

The global pandemic Coronavirus has created a panic and unstable situation all around the world. We are losing people day by day and the numbers are just increasing. The virus has started haunting people so badly that they are refusing themselves to be in quarantine.

The disease has attached itself with a big taboo now. Scientists all over the world were indulged in conducting various tests, nothing positive came out after research. But a piece of good news by the US scientists came which said that the scientists at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine have conducted successful vaccine tests on animals.

The potential vaccine was a cure against SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) -CoV-2, that lead to the new virus COVID-19.

The team of eBioMedicine gave the news which was published in The Lancet: The vaccine when tested on mice produced an antibody that neutralizes the effect caused due to SARS-CoV-2. This was a potential effect that could reduce the virus.

The authors of the tests are waiting for approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to start their vaccine resting on humans as well.

Author Andrea Gambotto, associate professor of surgery at the Pitt School of Medicine said:

“These two viruses, which are closely related to SARS-CoV-2, teach us that a particular protein, called a spike protein, is important for inducing immunity against the virus. We knew exactly where to fight this new virus,”

Co-senior author Louis Falo, professor and chair of dermatology at Pitt’s School of Medicine and UPMC said:

“Our ability to rapidly develop this vaccine was a result of scientists with expertise in diverse areas of research working together with a common goal,”

This vaccine is like patch like a band-aid which has needles made from sugar and spike protein that go inside your skin.

If this vaccine works it would save many lives due to coronavirus. S far the virus has claimed lives of around 47,000 people all over the world.
