KP1 and KP2 variants have come from Singapore
The new variants of Covid KP.2 and KP.1, which wreaked havoc in Singapore, have now started spreading in India as well. According to official figures, 290 cases of KP.2 and 34 cases of KP.1 have been reported in India. However, a source in the Union Health Ministry told PTI that all these are sub-types of JN1. The report said that there has been no increase in hospitalization and serious cases due to the new variant of Covid.
The source said, “There is no need to panic due to the cases of new Covid variants KP.2 and KP.1. There is nothing to worry about the increase in cases. Mutations will keep happening rapidly and this is the natural behavior of viruses like SARS-CoV2.” The source further said that INSACOG surveillance is sensitive and capable of catching the emergence of any new variant and samples from hospitals are also taken in a structured manner to detect any change in the severity of the disease caused by the virus.
Patients found in these states in India
According to the data, KP1 cases have been reported in seven states of the country, out of which the highest number of 23 cases have been found in West Bengal. At the same time, KP1 infected patients have been found in Goa (1), Gujarat (2), Haryana (1), Maharashtra (4), Rajasthan (2), Uttarakhand (1).
At the same time, the number of patients infected with KP2 in the country is 290, out of which the highest number of patients have been found in Maharashtra (148). Apart from this, 36 patients have been found in Delhi (1), Goa (12), Gujarat (23), Haryana (3), Karnataka (4), Madhya Pradesh (1), Odisha (17), Rajasthan (21), Uttar Pradesh (8), Uttarakhand (16) and West Bengal.
Serious symptoms not seen in patients
According to sources associated with the Ministry of Health, KP1 and KP2 are also sub-variants of the JN1 variant of Corona. However, patients infected with this variant have not yet shown serious symptoms of the disease and the number of patients admitted to the hospital is also less. In such a situation, there is no need to panic. Sources in the Ministry of Health said that the process of mutation will continue in these variants and this is also the nature of the coronavirus.
It is worth noting that the KP1 and KP2 variants have become the reason for the new wave of corona in Singapore. More than 25,900 cases have been reported in Singapore from May 5 to May 11. Two-thirds of these cases are related to the KP1 and KP2 variants. The group to which the KP1 and KP2 variants belong has been named FLiRT by scientists.
