Communal Violence on Ram Navami in 4 States, Several Injured, 1 Died

Sunday, 10th April, when Hindus across the country were celebrating the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami, communal clashes erupted in Bengal, MP, Gujarat, and Jharkhand. Despite the arrangements to maintain law and order in the region, anti-social elements, stone pelting, and hostility were observed in these areas.

Amid the violent march on Ram Navami, several people got injuries and 1 died in Gujarat. Situations got out of control in Madhya Pradesh where Police had to use teargas shells during the procession. Check the full details below

  • Curfew was imposed in Khargone, MP, and police in large numbers were deployed. Vehicles and even houses were set on the fire as per the sources. A temple has also been vandalized. Home Minister Narottam Mishra has reacted to the whole incident, saying No one has any right to disturb order and peace in the state. Around 77 people are arrested in the incident.
  • Communal clashes in Gujarat during Ram Navami also went out of control at Khambhat and Sabarkantha. Police fired teargas to contain violence. Many were injured and police recovered body of an unidentified man from Khambhat.
  • The same scenes were seen from Howrah, Bengal where police in heavy numbers were deployed and police urged people not to spread fake news about the situation.
  • Three people are in critical condition in Jharkhand’s Lohardaga after heavy stone pelting on Sunday.

Apart from these 4 states, Mumbai also witnesses violence in the Mankhurd locality. Around 20-25 vehicles were damaged, upon which Home Minister Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil has said that some people are trying to spread riots in the name of caste so that they can take advantage of it.

Even in JNU violence erupted on Sunday when two groups clashed overeating non-vegetarian food. Students of the left-wing and ABVP accused each other of causing a ruckus.
