Citroen Basalt: The fifth product from Citroen in India will be the Basalt SUV-coupe. A few teasers of the Citroen Basalt were already released and the exterior was already revealed, but now the carmaker has introduced the SUV-coupe in its production-ready version. Citroen is preparing to launch the Basalt in August and will soon open bookings for it.
Citroen Basalt Exterior
This is an SUV-coupe with a design similar to the C3 Aircross compact SUV. At the front, you can see the V-shaped split LED DRLs and the split grille, which is similar to the C3 Aircross. The bumper design has been changed to give the Basalt its own unique look.
In profile, it gets a coupe roofline and dual-tone finish alloy wheels, which are different from the blacked-out wheels seen on the concept model. At the rear, it gets wraparound LED taillights and a blacked-out bumper and a silver skid plate.
Citroen Basalt interior
The cabin looks similar to the C3 Aircross, thanks to the same dashboard layout, which includes dual digital displays and the same design for the AC vents. Citroen has given it white leatherette upholstery. A unique feature of the Basalt is that its rear seat base moves forward by 87mm, which offers better underthigh support.
Citroen Basalt features
The Basalt gets the same 10.2-inch touchscreen and 7-inch digital driver display as the C3 Aircross. It also gets automatic climate control and wireless phone charging. Its safety kit includes six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), a rear parking camera and tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
Powertrain options
Unlike the C3 Aircross, the Basalt will be offered with the standard 1.2 petrol and a 1.2-litre turbo petrol. The NA unit produces 82bhp and 155Nm and is offered with a six-speed MT. The turbo petrol produces 109bhp and 190Nm in MT guise and 205Nm in AT guise.
Colours and design
The Basalt will be offered in six different colours and ride on two different designs for alloy wheels depending on the variant. Other highlights include conventional door handles, a fastback roofline, black cladding for the wheel arches and a full LED light package.
Competition and launch
The Basalt is expected to arrive later this year and is Citroen’s new budget flagship. It will rival cars like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor and Honda Elevate. Its updated feature list will make its way to 3 other Citroen budget cars during this year.
