The BSA Gold Star 650 has a big single – 650 cc single-cylinder thumper, but with liquid-cooling, DOHC and 4 valves. This engine produces 45 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 55 Newton-meters of torque at 4,000 rpm. Developed by Rotax, it builds on their legacy of developing the 652cc single-cylinder unit for the BMW F 650 Funduro, which was available in India in the late 1990s.

Developed in collaboration between Austrian company BRP-Rotax and the Technical University of Graz, this engine has been carefully refined to comply with the most current emissions regulations. The engine is mated to a constant-mesh five-speed gearbox, with a chain final drive.

BSA Gold Star 650 Chassis and Suspension

The Gold Star 650’s engine is mounted on a simple tubular steel, dual-cradle frame but with the 650 weighing 213.5kg, it’s not a light motorcycle by any standards. Suspension, with telescopic front forks with 120mm of travel and rear twin shocks with 5-step preload adjustability, work to aid the Gold Star 650’s maneuverability and ride quality.

Stopping power is provided by Brembo with a 320mm front rotor and a 255mm diameter rear disc with standard dual-channel ABS. Wheel sizes are 18-inch front and 17-inch rear, and are spoked but sport tubeless tyres. On the international model, the wheels are fitted with Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp rubber, but it remains to be seen what tyres the Indian version comes with.

With its 782mm seat height and intuitive ergonomics, the Gold Star 650 promises to be universally appealing, especially for those who like the modern classic vibe. But we’ll reserve our overall opinion on this motorcycle until we swing a leg over it.

BSA Gold Star 650 Design

The design is a true reworking of the old BSA Gold Star from the 60s. Compared to the old Goldie (pictured above), it’s hard to distinguish the new one from the put-together version at a glance. The tear-drop shaped fuel tank, wire spoke wheels and round headlight (even with DRL) are all glimpses of the classic 60s Gold Star design. The round analog dials with inverted read-outs also give a retro touch.

BSA Gold Star 650 Price

The price of this new bike of BSA has not been revealed yet. But it is being speculated that the company can launch this bike in the market at an initial ex-showroom price of around Rs 3 lakh. Also, this bike will be able to give tough competition to the 650 cc bikes of Royal Enfield (Royal Enfield 650cc Bikes) present in the market.
