Bangladesh Not To Play In India For T20 World Cup 2026 ! Requests ICC To Shift Venues

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has chosen not to send its side to India for the T20 World Cup, which is set to start on February 7. This announcement was made on Sunday by Bangladesh's youth and sports adviser.Bangladesh was scheduled to play four games, one in Mumbai and three in Kolkata.The decision comes on the heels of the BCCI instructing Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to release Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman.

Asif Nazrul, Bangladesh's youth and sports adviser, stated on his official Facebook page that "Bangladesh will not go to India to play the World Cup, it was decided by the Bangladesh Cricket Board today.""We applaud this decision made in light of the Indian Cricket Board's extreme communal practices."

Bangladesh Requests ICC To Shift Matches From India To Sri Lanka

Following a meeting on Sunday that was attended by 17 board directors, BCB confirmed the situation and said that they had written to the International Cricket Council.

The Business Standard quoted BCB director Khaled Mashud Pilot as saying, "We have filed a letter to the ICC demanding that our match be shifted from India to Sri Lanka. If they have acknowledged they cannot offer protection to one of our players, how will they ensure the security of our entire team?"We will not go there to play because of this."

KKR Releases Rahman From IPL 2026

• Rahan was purchased by Shah Rukh Khan, who owns the KKR IPL team, for ₹9.20 crore following a fierce bidding battle at the Abu Dhabi auction last month.
• However, in response to mounting criticism of the actor for retaining Rahman during a period of attacks against Hindus in Bangladesh, the BCCI ordered KKR to release the left-arm pacer.
• Additionally, the BCB will write to the BCCI to request an official justification for Rahman's release. Additionally, Nazrul stated on Saturday that he has asked the nation's information and broadcasting ministry to cease airing the IPL in Bangladesh.

It might Be Difficult For the ICC To Arrange Venues

The T20 World Cup, where the India-Pakistan group league encounter has already been shifted out of the nation in accordance with the hybrid model outlined by the ICC that permits this match to be contested in neutral sites, is called into question by Sunday's decision.The Jay Shah-led ICC may find itself in a difficult situation if Bangladesh declines to play in India as well.The BCB has opted to cancel the pacer's NOC for the IPL, indicating that the decision to drop Rahman has not been warmly received by the political leaders.

ICC T20 World Cup 2026 Schedule

• The Board of Control for Cricket in India and Sri Lanka Cricket will co-host the 10th ICC Men's T20 World Cup, which will take place from February 7–8, 2026.
• The competition was previously held in India in 2016 and Sri Lanka in 2012.Twenty teams will participate in 55 games at five locations in India and three in Sri Lanka.

Two semi-finals are scheduled for March 4 and 5, followed by a final on March 8.[8] Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai will host the second semifinal, while Eden Gardens in Kolkata and Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will host the first semifinal and the final, respectively. 

If Pakistan qualifies, both events would be transferred to R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
