Michaela Mabinthy was born in a Muslim family but her father was killed by the Revolutionary United Front, and her mother died afterward due to starvation. She was sent to the orphanage afterward, where she was treated badly and not given proper food. 

At the age of 1999, she was adopted by Elaine and Charles Deprince of New Jersey location. Her inspiration to join the ballerina came when she saw the cover of a ballerina. 

She later enrolled at the Rock School of Dance Education, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and joined the Keystone National High School.

She was later awarded a scholarship to study at the American School of Ballet Theatre’s Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School of Ballet for her performance. In the ongoing pursuit of her career, she later joined the Dance Thater of Harlem, where she was the youngest member of the company.

In July 2013 she later joined the Junior company of the Dutch National Ballet located in Amsterdam. In her ongoing pursuit of gaining lots of perfection, she trained as a soloist there.

Her breakthrough came when she was trained as a “Hope” in a Beyonce sequence of Ballerina Lemonade.

Michaela Mabinty Deprince’s life journey tales the script of luck, hope, dream, perseverance and passion. In 2012 she told the interviewer that “ I lost both my parents, so I was there [the orphanage] for about a year and I wasn’t treated very well because I had vitiligo,”  “We were ranked as numbers, and number 27 was the least favorite and that was my number, so I got the least amount of food, the least amount of clothes and whatnot.”

She further said that after the Orphanage was bombed, Deprince described walking shoeless for miles to reach a refugee camp. Her mother who adopted her and another girl Mia from a camp said that Michaela was traumatised by the war situation and malnourished.

Michaela Deprince joined the ballerina at the age of 5 but she faces an initial trial as a black girl in a school of ballerina. She later said that black girls can’t play the role of Marie in a Nutcracker.

She wrote a memoir Taking Flight: From War Orphan to Star Ballerina, where she wrote her life account of becoming a Ballerina.  

In her social work, she supported a black dancer in Ballet, she even worked with the organization “ War Child”.

Her family told her fans that they should donate to the organization “War Child”
