Bad News For Users: GOI Banned Snack Video App And 42 Other Popular Apps

Do you use the Snack Video app? If yes, then there is bad news for you as The Ministry Of Electronics and Information has again released a list of apps that are going to be banned.

Snack video is one of the 43 apps which will be banned for Indian users as per the IT Act. The security concern is the reason for holding back the users to use these apps as these are Chinese apps.

About Snack Video

Snack Video came as an alternative to Tik Tok which was Chinese produce. The app has the same features that allow users to create a lip-sync video same as in Tik Tok.

After the ban of Tik Tok by the government seeing the safety and privacy concerns of the users, Snack video became a quick hit.  Thus, around 100 million installs have been done within a week in the month of August 2020.

However, it’s a Singapore-based app with Chinese roots due to which Meity(The Ministry Of Electronics and Information) took this step.

Recent List Of Banned Apps By Indian Government

Apart from Snack Video, some popular apps are also on the list such as Alipay Cashier, AliSuppliers Mobile App, AliExpress(a shopping app), and Alibaba Workbench.

Dating apps like TrulyChinese, TrulyAsian, WeDate, Chinese Social, Date In Asia, Soul, AsianDate, and more are also on the list. Also, users won’t be able to use live-streaming apps- First Love Live, MGTV, WeTV, Tubit, Taobao Live, Identity V, and WeTV Lite.

Besides these popular apps, the government decided to banned the following apps:

  • Isoland 2: Ashes of Time
  • BoxStar (Early Access)
  • Conquista Online II
  • Heroes Evolved
  • Happy Fish
  • Jellipop Match-Decorate your dream island
  • Munchkin Match: magic home building
  • Rela – Lesbian Social Network
  • Guys Only Dating: Gay Chat
  • CamCard – Business Card Reader
  • CamCard – BCR (Western)
  • FlirtWish: chat with singles

The Government had banned 59 mobile apps previously in June and September as well. A total of 118 apps was banned in India as per the Information Technology Act. Now, 43 more apps have joined the list.
