ASI has posted before and after pictures of all the rooms inside the monument in their January newsletter. In the two photos, one can see the renovation of the outer walls of the rooms whose lime and plaster was deteriorated with time.

All the responsibility for renovation and protecting the monument belongs to ASI and they have spent huge money on it. Around 6 lakh rupees were invested for that purpose.

The repair work was started in December 2021 and completed in March 2022. These rooms were made inaccessible to common visitors otherwise. However, one can get a glimpse of the inside rooms of the Taj Mahal on the ASI website.

Recently, a petition was filed in the high court of Allahabad to open the rooms of the Taj Mahal. The petitioner in his letter claimed that the monument was built on the Old Shiva Temple and thus there would be idols of Hindu deities inside the rooms.

Reacting to the petition, the government constituted a committee to see if there is any truth in the petitioner’s words. However, the high court bench rejected it saying that it is a historical matter and is out of the hands of the court.

The recent photos of the Taj Mahal have shut down all the objections to it and are said to put an end to this controversy.
