If we go through the report of Kaspersky, the attackers make groups on social media platforms that copies the communities of OpenAi accounts.

The malicious posts have a link saying users to download the ChatGPT desktop users.

Alongside, the hackers also post fake login accreditations of pre-created accounts purporting to give access to the AI bot. To temp the potential clients, the hackers purport that every account possesses $50 on its balance.

The attackers also claim that the balance can also be used to purchase subscriptions.

Kaspersky further went on to state that, by clicking on the link, a site will be open which will try to convenience users to download ChatGPT desktop clients.

It is to be carefully noted that the official site looks exactly like the original one but it is not.

Soon after you click the download button, the user unintentionally downloads an archive with an executable file associated with it. Now, the client will see a message stating “installation failed” or sometimes you will not see any message.

But, here the story doesn’t end.

A Trojan is installed on the desktop of the client. And, then it is the place from where attackers steal the data stored in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and other browsers. Kaspersky has called this Trojan-PSW.Win64.Fobo.

As per the blog, the Trojan is focused on stealing login information from social media accounts on Tik Tok, Facebook, etc. The virus can also steal the username as well as passwords of a business account.
