Jharkhand: An increase in the positive cases of Coronavirus has become the major cause of concern for Jharkhand high court. On Friday, the high court expressed concern over the increasing cases of Covid-19 in different regions of the state. The high court is observing that “war-like situation” has come.
Talking about a PIL on different factors of Covid-19 pandemic, a justice Sujit Narayan Prasad and division bench of the chief justice, Ravi Ranjan wanted to know that the government was ready to handle this situation.
The bench questioned-
“Whether the government has a road map for this and sufficient manpower and resources to handle the situation.”
The bench ordered Rajiv Ranjan, advocate general, to prepare a detailed affidavit on the response of the government on strict implementation of lockdown guidelines issued for Covid-19 hot spots by the centre.
Also, the bench asked about the preparedness of the states to combat the deadly virus, especially in the upcoming holy month of Ramadhan.
The bench also asked about the news reports that shown how people were not following orders in Hindpiri locality of Rachi, the epicentre of Covid-19.
The judges observed and asked the government-
“How can people come out of their houses and wander on the streets when the whole area has been sealed after being declared a potential hot spot?”
However, advocate general Rajiv Ranjan defended the government and said-
“Hindpiri has been sealed with corrugated sheets, and all 15 entry and exit points have been blocked.”
“The government from the Centre to send masks, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), testing kits, ventilators, and rapid testing kits have not been complied with. The state has only 5,000 testing kits at its disposal.”
