Air India employees were shocked to find that their December salaries had been heavily reduced, ranging from Rs 15,000 to Rs 90,000, because they had not vacated their respective company accommodations in Delhi‘s Vasant Vihar and the Air India Colony in Mumbai.
Air India Employees Penalized
Air India employees residing in the Air India Colony at Kalina in Mumbai and Vasant Vihar in Delhi have been informed that an amount of Rs 15 lakh and Rs 10 lakh respectively will be deducted from their salaries and other benefits for not vacating their flats since August 1, 2022.
Furthermore, they will face a penalty of Rs 10 lakh for their unauthorized stay. The deductions will be made from their salaries, retirement or service benefits, or any financial benefits accrued or likely to accrue in the future. This is in line with the Ministry of Civil Aviation‘s directive to levy the penal rent at twice the market rate.
The employees have pointed out that the Air India Colony was not a part of the divestment deal with Tata’s and Mumbai employees are facing a more severe penalty due to the higher living costs in the city.
