Adani Group is once again surrounded by controversies, but this time the company itself has taken the lead and rejected the US media report outright. In fact, America’s famous newspaper The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) claimed in a report that some companies of Adani Group are allegedly linked to Iranian LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) and this may violate US sanctions.
But Adani Enterprises responded strongly to this and said, “We consider this report to be completely baseless and mischievous. Adani Group has had no intentional contact with Iranian LPG or any intention to ignore sanctions.”
WSJ Report Alleges Adani Group’s Link to Iranian LPG
Adani Group has also clarified that it is not aware of any investigation by US authorities. The company said that the WSJ report is based on misconceptions and speculation and this news is a “deliberate attempt” to damage the reputation of the group.
No connection with Iranian ships or cargo
The company said that none of its ports handle cargo from Iran or Iranian-flagged ships. “Our policy is very clear, Iranian goods or ships are not accommodated at any of our ports and we do not provide any facilities related to any Iranian-owned ship.”
LPG came from Oman, full documentation is available
Clear Documentation Shows Sohar, Oman as Origin – On the LPG shipment mentioned in the WSJ report, the Adani Group says that it was a “routine commercial transaction” that took place through third-party logistics partners. According to the company, all the documents of that shipment mention “Sohar, Oman” as the port of origin, meaning that the goods did not come from Iran.
LPG is a Minor Business for Adani
LPG business share is less than 1.46 percent – Adani Group also said that LPG business is only 1.46 percent of their total business and all deals done in this sector are fully compliant with Indian and international laws (such as US sanctions laws).
All Partners Pass Strict KYC & Sanctions Checks – The company said, “We do proper KYC and due diligence of every supplier to ensure that they are not included in any kind of banned list (such as OFAC).”
Is this again a well-planned conspiracy against Adani?
Adani Group has earlier also described many international reports as motivated by “political agenda”. This time too, raising questions on the WSJ report, it has been clearly said that this could be another attempt to damage the image of Indian companies at the international level.
