2025 Volvo XC90 Facelift India Launch: Price, Specs, Features & More

Volvo XC90 Facelift

The Volvo XC90 facelift is scheduled to launch in India on March 4, 2025. The Swedish automaker’s flagship SUV was introduced globally last year with a new design and upgraded features. This is the second significant redesign of the XC90 in ten years, ensuring that it remains competitive with other premium SUVs in the market. The XC90 is available internationally in six or seven-passenger seating configurations, with three engine options, two mild hybrids, and a plug-in hybrid model.

The facelift includes a redesigned front grille with diagonal slats. The LED daytime running lights retain their signature Thor’s hammer design with slight changes, while the front bumper has been improved with additional air intakes. The XC90 facelift features new alloy wheel designs and new LED taillights, representing the second significant facelift of the SUV since its launch in 2014.

Inside, the cabin now gets an upgraded 11.2-inch infotainment touchscreen, which replaces the previous nine-inch version. The display is placed vertically between the AC vents and just above the HVAC panel. The plug-in hybrid XC90 gets a dedicated shortcut for the electric-only driving mode. The general layout remains the same and it will still be available in a seven-seat configuration. Additionally, Volvo has introduced frequency selective damping technology in the updated XC90 to enhance ride quality, improve sound insulation and provide additional storage compartments.

The facelifted Volvo XC90 retains the same powertrains as before, but the diesel option has been dropped. All variants are all-wheel drive and are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The B5 engine is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit that generates 247 bhp, while the B6 variant uses a supercharger to boost power to 297 bhp. Both are mild hybrids backed by a 48-volt electric motor. The stronger PHEV unit has a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that generates 455 bhp. The petrol engine positioned on the front axle independently offers 310 bhp, which works in conjunction with a 145 bhp rear motor and a 14.7 kWh battery. This allows the XC90 PHEV to get an electric range of 71 km.

The XC90 currently on sale is powered by a 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine with a mild-hybrid system. This setup generates 250hp and 360Nm, hitting the 100kph mark in 7.7 seconds. An 8-speed automatic gearbox sends power to all four wheels, giving it AWD capability. We expect the facelift to have the same powertrain. There could also be an XC90 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant, but Volvo is yet to comment on this.

Expected 2025 Volvo XC90 facelift price, rivals in India

As of now, only the XC90 B5 AWD variant is sold here, and it is priced at Rs 1.01 crore. The price will likely depend on the engine line-up and seating configuration, with the price likely to increase by over Rs 10 lakh. It will continue to rival the BMW X5 (starting at Rs 97.80 lakh), Mercedes GLE (Rs 99 lakh) and Audi Q7 (starting at Rs 88.70 lakh) in India.
