However, only eight civic wards in Mumbai are identified as the main spreader of coronavirus. Govandi, Chembur, and Andheri are among those major contributors. This has raised the number of active patients in the city whereas other states of the country are experiencing a relatively low covid-19 caseload.

Around 1360 new patients were identified on Monday increasing the total count to 333, 564. However, the figure was below 500 a few weeks ago. A health department official confirmed that the death toll of the city has reached above 50,000 after the rising cases.

Thane has become the main concern that forced the civic administration to announce lockdown in 11 hotspots till the end of March. Around 6,302 people have died in the district due to covid-19 and 1,911 people are active patients in Thane.
